The quote
Is the quote really the final price?
It is for the job as it was described to us. We quote on the phone before we dispatch, based on your vehicle, the key type, and whether you still have a working key, so accurate details matter. If something at your car turns out different (a different key or system than described, no working key after all, a damaged lock or ignition), we explain what we found and give you a revised price before any work starts. You decide whether to go ahead. If you decline, there's no service or travel charge, except on after-hours emergency calls.
What decides the price?
Your vehicle, the key type, and whether you still have a working key. Year, make and model plus that last answer is enough to price almost any job.
Is there a service fee when you arrive?
No. There's no “service fee” at the curb and no “this one's harder than we thought.” The number on the phone is the number on the invoice.
Why don't you list prices on the website?
Key prices swing with the vehicle and the key type, so any list would be wrong for most cars. We quote each job on the phone instead, before anyone drives.
Hours and after hours
What are your hours?
9am–7pm, seven days a week.
Do you work after 7pm?
Our hours are 9am–7pm, seven days. Outside those hours we take emergency calls at emergency rates — quoted up front, same as any job.
Where we go
Which areas count as the Santa Clarita Valley?
Valencia, Saugus, Newhall, Canyon Country, Stevenson Ranch, Castaic, Val Verde and Agua Dulce. There's no travel charge in any of them. See the service area.
Do you come outside Santa Clarita?
Yes. Calls outside the Santa Clarita Valley add a flat $75 travel charge. It's included in your quote, never added later.
Can you meet me in a parking garage?
Yes. Text us the garage, the level and a landmark. Everything we need is on the truck.
Your car
Which cars do you work on?
All American and Asian makes, plus Volvo. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Volkswagen are coming soon. See every make we service.
Do I need to tow my car?
No. We come to the car.
I was told only the dealer can make my key. Is that true?
Sometimes it isn't. Many “dealer only” jobs are ones we can do at your car, but not all of them. Call with your year, make and model and we'll tell you straight.
What do I need to show you?
Photo ID that matches the registration, the registration or title, and the VIN (on the dash at the windshield, or the door jamb). We only open or key a car for its owner.
Licensing and trust
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Key Dudes holds BSIS locksmith company license LCO 8755, and you can check it yourself on the BSIS license lookup. We're insured through NEXT Insurance and GEICO.
What if you can't do the job?
If a job turns out to be outside what we can do, you don't pay. We'll refer you to a locksmith or dealer who can, and tell you what to ask for.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Keys that turn out faulty from the manufacturer or vendor are covered for 90 days, and we replace the key or refund you. Natural wear and tear and human error aren't covered.
How do I know a locksmith isn't a scam?
Watch what they do, not who they are. Our guide to locksmith scams lists the red flags and how to verify any locksmith, including us.
